The ‘Tell Us Once’ Service  #

‘Tell Us Once’ is a service is offered by most local authorities on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). The service allows you to inform central and local government services of the death at one time rather than having to write, telephone or even attend each service individually. The ‘Tell Us Once’ service is free to use and can save you a great deal of time and effort. If the local authority offers the service, you will be made aware of this either when you telephone to book an appointment to register the death or when you attend to register if there is no appointment system in place.

Please read The Tell Us Once Service for further details.

If you do not use the ‘Tell Us Once’ Service #

If you do not or have not used the Tell Us Once service, the walkthrough will take you through a process to facilitate the notification of the death to some of the various authorities you may need to inform. These are:

  • HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC)
  • Department for Work and Pensions (DWP)
  • Passport Office
  • Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA)
  • Local Council / Authority

Once you have completed the necessary details, the relevant letters or documents you need to notify these various authorities can be generated, automatically completed, for you to print, sign and post.

Please Note: Before you can generate any letters or documents within the application you will need to have added the Primary Executor in the Executors table within “The Will” section. Once the Primary Executor has been added, you can then return to this table to generate all the relevant letters and documents.
